Lexloom vs. DoNotPay

DoNotPay sells a single consumer-facing bot for cancellation and small-claims tricks. Lexloom is a legal-information and document-preparation service — same membership, full jurisdiction coverage.

DoNotPay spends a paragraph of its marketing on every category it can name: cancel a subscription, dispute a fee, write a small-claims letter, file an appeal. The product is the consumer bot category it invented, and the comparison is mostly against paper mail and waiting on hold. That product does the cancellations consumer-protection journalists write about — and it crosses the lines regulators object to when it calls itself a lawyer.

Lexloom sits on the other side of that line. The agent does not present itself as a lawyer. It does not generate advice tailored to your specific matter. Anything that crosses into advice or representation is handed to a licensed attorney in your jurisdiction, by the same agent that raised the question. This is the line the FTC has come down on, and Lexloom is built to keep it.

The service loop matters. DoNotPay is single-thread per task: one cancellation a minute, four minutes a complaint. Lexloom keeps your matter on a single thread across jobs — triage this morning, a drafted response this afternoon, an attorney consult booked for tomorrow — so the agent never re-explains your situation at the boundary of each task.

Coverage matters too. DoNotPay covers the consumer-bot lane well and silently does nothing on the lane the FTC has narrowed. Lexloom is jurisdiction-aware: the consultation step in your state activates representation where state-bar rules require it, and the agent has the file ready when the licensed attorney of record opens it.

If you only ever need a cancellation bot, DoNotPay is fine. The moment a matter escalates beyond the consumer-cancellation lane — a landlord dispute, a renewal question with an attorney-read clause, a contract you actually need explained — Lexloom is the layer that keeps the whole matter on the same thread and hands you a real licensed attorney when the situation calls for one.
